March 21, 2004

The Southern Oklahoma Bassers (SOB) club has recently undergone a revision of its by-laws and affiliation. After three years of affiliation with Honey Hole Clubs of Texas, the general membership voted to end this affiliation in our January meeting. Additionally, the president and founder of the club, Bert Robertson, decided to retire from active membership. Further, several active members decided to leave the club, as well.

While this may pose a death knell for most clubs, the club has continued and has recently recruited 2 new members, Jerry England of Fort Sill, OK, and Brian Moorehead of Cache, OK. The club likes to maintain an active membership of 24.

The SOB club held its first tournament of the year, March 13th, on Arbuckle Lake with a good turn out of 12 entrants for a reduced membership on a cold, wet, and blustery day. Brian Moorehead took the top honors weighing 2 fish and had the big bass of 3 lbs. and 2 oz.

Monthly meetings are held at Mike’s Sports Grill the last Thursday of each month. Those wishing to eat (Dutch treat) at 6:30 PM with the general meeting starting not later than 7:15 PM. Mike’s Sports Grill is located 1/8 mile west of I-44 on West Gore Boulevard in Lawton, OK. All members are expected and guests are welcome.

The meeting this month will focus on approving constitutional changes, tournament payback amendment, discussion and planning of our First Annual SOB Club Championship, identification of our April tournament lake, date and format, and election of permanent club officers. It should be a busy and important meeting for the club.
